The Pear Deck Tutor integration for GoGuardian Teacher enables teachers to prompt Pear Deck Tutor, tutoring sessions for students, directly from a GoGuardian Teacher class session. If a teacher notices that one of their students needs additional support on an assignment or class material, they can be assigned tutoring sessions. This allows teachers to continue teaching their class while providing individual students personalized guidance.
To launch a Pear Deck Tutor session, teachers can click the Assign Tutoring button in the command bar, then select a student, and click Next. The Assign Tutoring button is also available in the GoGuardian Teacher Chat interface, and on a student’s screen view which can be accessed by clicking on a student’s tile to expand their screen.
After selecting a student, the Pear Deck Tutor selection page is presented. This page allows teachers to select the following student information and their tutoring needs:
What school do they attend?
What is their grade level?
What subject area do they need help with?
After choosing a subject area and clicking Next, teachers can select a more specific area of focus within that subject on the following page and click Next.
The final, tutor assignment interface allows teachers to provide more specific instruction for the tutor by writing a message in the text box. Teachers also have the option to upload the student’s homework or assignments by uploading a file.
Please note: a teacher’s written description can not be seen by the student - only the tutor.
After completing the tutoring request form, teachers will receive the following options:
Option A. "Start Tutoring now, during class". This option opens a Pear Deck Tutor tab on the student’s device that will match them with the next available tutor.
Option B. “Share a link to your student(s) to do tutoring later, outside of class.
After choosing a tutoring assignment option, the student is then responsible for beginning the live session.
Please be advised that Pear Deck Tutor is powered by a tutor community servicing your district and that it is not a definitive guarantee that a student matches with a tutor exactly when they place the request. While we uphold a service rate standard, factors like time-of-day and tutor availability may impact the students' experience. If a student reports that they were unable to match after putting in the request, please guide them to try again at least 1-2 more times. If it persists, we should advise students to wait a little bit so that active tutors can finish helping other students and address their needs.
Student Flow
Tutor Assignment During Class
A student can begin assigned tutoring either during, or after class. When a student is assigned tutoring during class, the Pear Deck Tutor Sign-in/Login page will automatically populate on their desktop. All students will be required to login, or be signed in, before completing the assigned tutoring.
Once a student is signed in, they will land on the “Your teacher has assigned you tutoring!” page, where they will be able to review the assigned tutoring details and choose the “Ready for a live session!” button. Students can also scroll down and review “How requesting a live tutor works” for more details.
Once a student is ready to begin tutoring, the “Finding you a tutor” interface will appear. This matches a student with a tutor, and has them enter the Lesson Space with a tutor.
If there is no match, an expired request page will appear and the student will be notified. The suggestion to "browse our tutors will appear". If a student decides to cancel the request, a cancellation request page will appear, giving student a confirmation prompt to cancel, or the option to go back and look for a match.
Tutor Assignment After Class
If a student signs in to Pear Deck Tutor for tutoring after class, they will be able to access their assigned tutoring from 2 places. When a student signs in, they will automatically land on the “Your teacher has assigned you tutoring!” page, but they can also access their assignment from the home page by clicking the notification bell. If a student accesses their assignment from the home page, they will start the matching process from the "Your teacher has assigned you tutoring!" page.
Once a student finishes the assigned tutoring session and revisits the same assignment URL, they will be directed to a landing page displaying the message, "You have completed the assigned tutoring."
On this page, students will be presented with two choices: (1) navigate to the request page, or (2) go to the dashboard. Clicking on either of these links will redirect the students to the Pear Deck Tutor Home Page.
Tutoring sessions that last more than 3 minutes will be considered complete. The following prompts will appear based on the tutoring session length:
If it's less than 3 minutes, a page asking "Did something happen" will appear for the student.
If it's more than 3 minutes, a page for "Ratings" will appear on the student's page.

Q. How can I prompt a tutoring session for one of my students in GoGuardian Teacher?
A. In your Screens View – the live classroom session view within GoGuardian Teacher – you’ll now see an “Assign Tutoring” button in the Chat List, an Individual Student Chat, and the footer. When you select this button, a modal will pop up to guide you through the process of assigning tutoring to your students. You’ll be asked to provide the student’s grade level and the subject area they need help with, and you’ll have the option to upload a specific homework or assignment that pertains to the tutoring request. Once you’ve provided this information, you’ll have the option to either a) “Start assigned tutoring now,” which will open a tab for Pear Deck Tutor on your student’s device that will match them with the next available tutor, or b) copy the provided tutoring assignment link, so students can partake in tutoring outside of class.
Q. Can I prompt a tutoring session for multiple students at once?
A. Yes, you can prompt a tutoring session for up to five students at a time.
Q. Once I’ve completed prompting a tutoring session, am I able to see if a student is participating in the tutoring session from my GoGuardian Teacher Screens View?
A. Since the tutoring session will take place on the same browser the student is already on, you’ll have visibility into the student’s screen and will have the ability to see whether or not the student is participating in the tutoring session.
Q. In order to initiate a tutoring session, does a student need to have a Pear Deck Tutor account?
A. A student does not need to have a Pear Deck Tutor account in order for a teacher to assign them a tutoring session, however, they will need a Pear Deck Tutor account in order to participate in tutoring. When a teacher requests a tutoring session for a student that does not yet have an account, an account will be created for the student when they navigate to the tutoring session link and log in using Clever or Google SSO. This student account will be automatically assigned to the school or district’s Pear Deck Tutor account.
Q. What happens once a student logs in to their Pear Deck Tutor account?
A. Once a student is signed in, they will land on the “Your teacher has assigned you tutoring!” page, where they will be able to review the assigned tutoring details and choose the “Request a live tutor” CTA. Q. What if a student does not get matched with a tutor?
A. If there is no match, an expired request modal will appear where the student will be notified and the suggestion to browse our tutors will appear. If a student decides to cancel the request, a cancel request modal will appear. They will be asked once again if they want to cancel or go back to being matched.
As a teacher, you’ll be able to see whether or not your student got matched with a tutor from the GoGuardian Teacher Screens View. If you notice the student did not match with a tutor, you can also re-initiate the “Assign Tutoring” workflow. Please note that you will be prompted to re-input the request details.
Q. Can a teacher only assign tutoring during a live GoGuardian Teacher session?
A. Yes. Currently, a live session needs to be running in order to access the “Assign Tutoring” button.
What happens after a student uses the unique tutoring link and completes a tutoring session?
Once a student has successfully completed a tutoring session, the session recording and additional details become available in the Pear Deck Tutor dashboard. The “tutor link” that was used by the student will continue to work for six weeks, so the student can re-use the link if they need additional help with the same content.
Q. What if the student needs more than one session?
A. If the student needs more than one tutoring session (say they ran out of time and weren’t able to cover all the material), we recommend the student “Favorite” the tutor and make plans to meet with them again. If the student and tutor were working with uploaded content, such as worksheets or assignments, the student will have to re-upload those when initiating a new tutoring session.
